Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, little town that is a bit sleepy. People who don't understand about the place mistakenly think that it is the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact it is this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward of that city Lachine. Many times, it is credited as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was not long. Brugel lived in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. Her first ambition was to be a dancer. But, a growing rate increased her height and she outgrew all of the dance partners she was able to have. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." After I became too big for my male companions, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in Brugel's case it was a suggestion from the drama instructor at her high school who pushed her in the right direction. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the annual school production. She tried out and ended up playing the leading role for the role in Anne of Green Gables. It led to an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work has been seen on both the small and large screen. She gained the most attention when she won her role as Rita in the acclaimed television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member in the season 1 of the show and was only seen occasionally.
